Hanxin falls down, dean gets fired

This might be a hard day for Shanghai Jiaotong University: Chen Jin, dean of school of microelectronics in SJTU, was fired for his fabrication of chips.

For months, a scandal has been circulating in China, that Chen Jian, Dean of School of Microelectronics, Shanhai Jiaotong University, fabricated several digital signal processors (DSPs). Chen alleged that these chips were developed by their team at SJTU, and he named them Hanxin (Chinese chips) as they’re "China’s own DSPs".

It is confirmed today by SJTU that Chen was lying with his DSPs. Although SJTU’s announcement was a bit vague, it seems that none of Chen’s DSPs is as original as they alleged. And most important, Chen was cheating. He used remarked chips (probably from Freescale) since his team was unable to develop such sort of chips.

What I’m interested in are: will Chen face criminal investigation. And how much funds have been wasted?
